Day 6 - Homer - Alaska 2008
After arriving at our lodge, turns out our first charter is a halibut trip out of Homer. So yup, we load up and leave at 2 A.M. to arrive in Homer at 6:00. Turns out the weather is so bad, they've canceled the trip. We drive back to Soldotna, exhausted and not a little pissed off. Highlight of the day was this rainbow. Oh yeah, I caught 2 more reds today, no pictures.

Day 5 - Soldotna - Alaska 2008
Today we made our way up the Kenai peninsula to Soldotna. Actually, our cabin was about 17 miles east of Soldotna along the Kenai river, so it was a bit of a trek. However, our cabin was quite quaint. The Silver Budda Lodge is run by a Swiss guy named Budda, and was very hospitable. The lodge is directly on the Kenai river, with some decent fishing spots. Just get up early.

Day 4 - Homer - Alaska 2008
Today was supposed to be the big day. Some lingcod fishing followed by halibut fishing. Didn't start out good as the charter put us on a 12 pack instead of the 6 pack we asked for. We figured a full boat would not pay the extra to go way out for lingcod. And they didn't. Apparently the weather was too bad to go out for lingcod anyway, so we went to one spot for halibut, a good hour and half drive. Very long day, but at least I caught a personal best, 50+ pound halibut. Steve also caught a 50+ pounder.
Here's a video of Steve at the chicken hole.

Day 3 - Homer - Alaska 2008
Walked down to the docks for a great day halibut fishing, but the weather had other plans.

Passed by a Bald Eagle photo opportunity.

We ended up going for a drive around Kachemak Bay. First picture is on North side look West.

Heading back down to the Homer Spit, I got this shot.

Fishing the Homer Spit "Fishin' Hole".

Ending the day at our lovely log cabin.

Alaska Vacation - Day 8
Just before catching the last fish of the trip. Today we got some chickens. 6-8 foot seas meant a good portion of the boat was chumming for us.
Next stop, Russian River Falls. A 'light' little hike, we caught some snaps and video of sockeye salmon going against the flow.
Some more scenery along the Russian River Falls trail.
Finally caught sight of a juvenile moose on the way back to the cabin. Tomorrow opens the moose hunting season.
